چکیده

LCT consists of pliable latex sheets impregnated with cholestrol crystals which respond to different temperatures by emitting different wavelengths of light ranging from brown (cool) through yellow and green to blue (hot). These latex sheets form one wall of a sealed box with the opposite wall being made of perspex to allow the thermographic image to be viewed. The thermographic detectors are calibrated to react to different temperatures. Each one has a mean temperature and responds 2°C above and below this mean. There are eight detectors which respond to mean temperatures of 24, 26, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 and 33°C. Each box is airtight and has a valve through which air can be pumped to make the pliable latex sheet assume a convex contour which can be moulded around the subject under study. The box is held in a frame with a polaroid camera and a flash unit, thus a permanent picture of the thermographic image can be obtained (Novamedix Ltd, Whitchurch, England).

Inter-observer agreement between 2-dimensional CT versus 3-dimensional I-Space model in the Diagnosis of Occult Scaphoid Fractures

Background: The I-Space is a radiological imaging system in which Computed Tomography (CT)-scans can be evaluated as a three dimensional hologram. The aim of this study is to analyze the value of virtual reality (I-Space) in diagnosing acute occult scaphoid fractures.   Methods: A convenient cohort of 24 patients with a CT-scan from prior studies, without a scaphoid fracture on radiograph, ye...

Scaphoid Fractures: A Comparison of Two Surgical Methods for Internal Fixation Using Either Herbert Screws or Multiple Pins

Background and Aims: Scaphoid fractures are the most common fractures of the wrist. This study compared the outcomes of two surgical internal fixation techniques, using either Herbert screws (HS group) or multiple pins (MP group), in the treatment of scaphoid fractures. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 41 patients (23 in HS and 18 in MP groups) with unilateral scaphoid fract...

Diagnosis of occult scaphoid fractures: a randomized, controlled trial comparing bone scans to radiographs for diagnosis.

BACKGROUND Many patients with suspected scaphoid fractures but negative radiographs are immobilized for ≥ 2 weeks and are eventually found to have no fracture. Bone scans are reportedly 99% sensitive for these injuries if done ≥ 72 hours postinjury. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to determine if early bone scans would allow for shorter cast immobilization periods in patients with sus...

Scaphoid Fractures- Anatomy And Diagnosis: A Systemic Review Of Literature

Scaphoid fractures are commonly seen in orthopedic practice. An organized and thoughtful approach to diagnosis and treatment can facilitate good outcomes. Anatomical knowledge of the scaphoid is important both for the treatment and prognosis. The blood supply to scaphoid is from distal to proximal pole. Clinical suspicion is of paramount importance. X ray is most important to confirm the diagno...

Treatment of scaphoid fractures and nonunions.

Scaphoid fractures are common but present unique challenges because of the particular geometry of the fractures and the tenuous vascular pattern of the scaphoid. Delays in diagnosis and inadequate treatment for acute scaphoid fractures can lead to nonunions and subsequent degenerative wrist arthritis. Improvements in diagnosis, surgical treatment, and implant materials have encouraged a trend t...
